Transnational masterclass

The behavioural change research projects for ESPACE and Hampshire County Council, which are described elsewhere on the site, led to much greater clarity on how to address behavioural issues in climate change projects across Europe. The reports were substantial, aimed primarily at a strategic audience. However we also needed to share what we had learned with practising managers who had day-to-day responsibilities in the area. We did this through a series of one-day masterclasses as shown in the picture.

In preparation for each masterclass we summarised the reports to four sides of key insights. We then spoke to participants ahead of time to identify the particular issues that were causing them concern in their work, using this information to fine tune the content to suit particular participants. We realised that we should emphasise stories of successful change projects rather than abstract concepts, so we limited conceptual input to about one hour (of a total of six).

Most of the time was used to allow participants to apply insights to their own live experience, helping them to develop insights that would be directly relevant on their return to the office.
