Helen Baron

Advisory Panel
Helen Baron

Helen Baron is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Chartered Psychologist with over 25 years experience as a psychologist. She specialises in two areas - equal opportunities and psychometric research and development. As an independent consultant she advises many organisations on the design and implementation of effective, evidence based selection systems. In addition she helps organisations formulate equal opportunities policy and promote fairness in selection and other areas.

For many years a leading member of the SHL research and development team, she has developed over 100 original psychometric tests as well as publishing widely in the area of equal opportunities and selection issues. She advises on effective measurement in many different contexts. Her international experience spans both consulting and the tricky issues of translating and adapting materials for international use.

Helen’s interest in equal opportunities has been a constant throughout her career, considering this of paramount importance to anyone involved in recruitment and selection decision making. As well as working with employers to improve the fairness of their practices she has been involved in the development of formal guidelines – particularly regarding the fair use of psychometric tests. Research projects include investigating how to adapt tests to make them accessible to people with disabilities and looking at the evidence surrounding the use of cognitive tests with different ethnic and cultural groups. She was a founder member of the British Psychological Society Standing Committee for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities.
